Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),
In order to help you monitor your child's progress this year, it is important
to be aware of how your child will be evaluated for grading purposes. The
following procedure will be used in my class:
- HOMEWORK
- Homework will account for 20% of your child's grade. I assign about
three book assignments per chapter to be completed at home. It is EXTREMELY
important that EVERY assignment be completed and turned in on time.
It has been my experience that students who do poorly and fail in my
class are those who do not do homework. Students will be assigned
detention for repeatedly missing homework assignments. Your cooperation
and encouragement in this area would be a great help.
My policy on homework copying
is: (A student who copies homework AND the student who gives their homework to
be copied will both receive a 0% grade on the assignment, since I cannot determine
which student did the work). I also do not allow students to "WORK TOGETHER"
on homework because I cannot tell if answers were shared or copied. (Both
students receive a 0% grade.)
- CLASS WORK - Class
work will account for 40% of your child's grade. Class work will consist of the
following:
A. WORKSHEETS
- Worksheet pages are assigned to complement the material presented in the text.
Sufficient time will be allowed in class to work on these sheets. We
average about three worksheets per chapter.
B. WORKBOOK
- Workbook assignments are associated with various activities covered throughout
the year. Sufficient time will be allowed in class to work on these sheets.
We average about two or three workbook assignments per chapter.
C.
QUIZZES - Unannounced quizzes are given following each section of the
text we cover to reinforce the material in the text. There will be up to
three of these quizzes during each chapter.
- TESTS - Tests will
account for 40% of your child's grade. Tests will consist of the following:
A.
MAP TESTS - There will
be a map test at the end of each chapter which will reinforce concepts and places
we have learned during the chapter. We average about three of these tests
per quarter.
B. CHAPTER
TESTS - We have approximately three chapter tests per quarter on the material
we discuss in class and cover in the homework, and worksheet assignments.
C. PROJECTS -
Your child will be required to complete a class project during the
course of the school year. Suggested projects will be posted in the classroom.
Students may also develop their own ideas for projects. If a student
does not complete a project, he/she has not met the requirements of the course
and will NOT pass!
D. EXTRA CREDIT
- If a student wishes to gain extra credit, I allow them to do extra projects.
No more than two projects may be turned in during any one marking period.
If your child is absent from school for any reason,
it is his or her responsibility to check the Homework Hotline page to find out
what assignments have been missed and to complete the missed assignments within
a reasonable amount of time.
Students are given ample time to complete all assignments and
are given the due date when the work is assigned.
Students are ALWAYS
given a minimum of two days to work on homework assignments.
Assignments turned in on or before the due date will receive full credit.
Assignments turned in after the due date will receive minimal credit (70%).
Assignments turned in after the chapter test will NOT be accepted!
If your child is having trouble in class, it is imperative that we work together
to solve any problems as soon as possible. I am available for parent conferences
at announced dates during the school year. Please watch announcements for
these dates. If you would like to contact me during the school year for
any reason, you can reach me by:
